I have this exact mower but it never ran quite as sweet it would take approx 20 - 25 mins to get running. So I watched this video and stripped it down, cleaned the carb out and cleaned the spark plug and it now runs perfect ! No excess revs no stutter ! Perfect thank you very much for sharing this video

for this mate. Nice one. I've had my mountfield RS 100 for about 3 yrs now. I bought it from new. But for the first time in 3yrs it wouldn't start. Eventually I managed to fire it up but it wouldn't tick over and kept conking out..? I re fueled it with fresh premium petrol, ...cleaned the spark plug and tested for a spark. All good. But it didn't fix the problem. I checked the fuel was reaching the carb, and I checked the primer bulb was working. All good. But it still didn't fix the problem. My mate said it sounded like it was something to do with the carb..? I got as far as removing the air filter box and the top cowling etc, but I couldn't work out how to remove the carb cos of that long thin spring and the linkage. I've never taken a carb apart in my life before, but after watching your superb tutorial video this evening I can't wait until I get home from work tomorrow and go out into the garden with my tools and my tablet to watch this video again as I follow you each step of the way. I was not confident at all about attempting to strip and clean the carb cos I've never done anything like this in my life. But I'm really happy and confident after searching YouTube for ...

"Mountfield RS 100 won't start" ....

And seeing your video at the top of the league. You certainly know your stuff mate, and the way you have presented this tutorial is so easy to take everything onboard and understand exactly what to do cos you haven't gone into any confusing technical rubbish that I don't need to know. Short, ...sweet,...and straight to the point. Excellent stuff. I've now subscribed to your channel mate. Well done, and thankyou very much. 👌👏👏👏🤝🤝🤝😊👍

Thanks for all the information. Lots of us seem to have similar problems with this engine. I do think that modern fuels don’t help as we don’t know exactly what gets added to them, and they are biased towards fuel injection and not humble carburettors. You’ve saved me a lot of work, thanks.

Hi ya mate. I appreciated your tutorial video so much that the least I can do is give yourself and any future viewers an update..?
I take my hat off to ya mate...🙌👏. I got straight home from work today and followed each step of this video again to strip, clean and rebuild the carburetor. I wouldn't have achieved this without your help. The job was a complete success in just one attempt. Everything you said and did in this video is absolutely spot on. There was lots of gunk in the carb and even some rusty water in the bowl. Cleaned and scrubbed everything, ...removed the jets and unblocked the clogged holes etc. Bolted everything back onto the pumping the primer bulb until I saw petrol squirt out in the on the 2nd pull it fired up and purred like a kitten again...!! Unbelievable. I'm really chuffed mate. I mowed the back lawn as a tester to make sure I'd got everything right. It hasn't run this smooth since the day I bought it from new. And that's no exaggeration!

*FOR ANYONE WITH A MOUNTFIELD CARBURETOR PROBLEM WHO IS SCROLLING THROUGH THESE COMMENTS WONDERING IF THIS VIDEO IS WORTH WATCHING..? THE ANSWER IS A BIG 'YES'. WATCH AND FOLLOW THE EASY TO UNDERSTAND INSTRUCTIONS ON THIS VIDEO, AND I GUARANTEE YOU ALL 100% THAT YOUR MOWER WILL BE UP AND RUNNING LIKE NEW IN NO TIME AT ALL* 🤝👌💪👍😊

Excellent video, thanks. When draining the carb, the air filter cover makes an ideal tray to catch the fuel.

Thanks mate - excellent, clear, easy to follow video. I serviced my carb exactly as you said, and the mower started first pull and is running sweetly. Much obliged!

Have an EP414 (RS100) and used your guide to take apart the carb on a machine which had been working 5 minutes earlier but had decided it had had enough. Few minutes of swearing and spraying later and it was up and running again. Cheers!

Thanks for the video.. Just picked up one of these but with the self propelled option. Previous owner said it would sometimes cut out and erratic idle. Will do the carb maint and hopefully it will fix it..

Also, when I tipped it on its side to quickly check the blade, some fuel seemed to run out from where the carb is, will check that out also.

Thanks have a Stiga rs100 which was running for 5 minutes, hunting then cut out. Did the carb cleanup as shown and still hunting found out I had replaced in line filter with home brew motor Bike filter which I had pinched too tight with hose clamp and flow rate was real low . turned out it just ran for the full bowl then cut out, then of course bowl would fill again and run for another 5 minutes. Drove me nuts but your tips lead me to the fuel issue. Martin

Great video thanks. There were no obvious signs of gunk inside the carb but I cleaned it all out anyway and it runs a treat. No more surging!!

I really enjoy your videos. I have the same model with the same issue but when I saw how fiddly it was accessing the carburettor I thought straight down the repair shop as I couldn’t handle the stress. Thank you 👌

Hi great video. I had the hunting problem last year, cleaned carb and put back three times but still bad. Eventually I found another black plastic jet, i think, on the top by the plastic throttle control, cleaned it and cured it. Might have been coincidence but just started it today and still ok.

Thanks Mower Man, just watched this video and managed to HP414 back up and running. The stainless bush on air filter housing even fell out exactly as it did during the video. My issues were mouse related, little darling had chewed the hose from the primer bulb. Managed to replace it with a pipe I had left over from a strimmer repair. Your video gave me the confidence to remove the carb and clean all that down at the same time. Buying an equivalent SP Mower in B&Q today would be £250, so you have saved me a fortune. Much appreciated.
