They said in1916, Jens Jensen was a hundred years before his time. Well if Jensen arrived today, a century later. All he would find was me, Scott Carlini. Explaining as our Cities first Community tree historian, where his idea to grow old growth forests throughout Chicago's West side went slowly wrong. OK, I entered a proposal for national historic landscape preservation contest that could have possibly funded the patriotic protection of endangered Chicago park trees originally planted by Jensen & Olmstead over 100 years ago. By teaching urban youth to become todays Jensen's & Olmsted's,  surveying for and injecting select Ash trees,  documenting locations and conditions of park systems other historic tree survivors, collect native evolved seed,  germinate and plant replacements for ones lost to EAB event, then learn to formatively prune them for good structure over next decade.This could have supplied young individuals with enough sought after technical arboricultural knowledge, to help regrow devastated parks across the USA. Just learning how to trunk inject Ash trees alone would give an individual direct access to job treating countless trees against EAB statewide. But instead I (Chicago) lost the contest, Park Dist. sacrificed every 90-150 old "Teenage" Ash having 300 & 600 year possible native lifespans, then unknowingly releasing decades of stored carbon after mulching up some 65%+ of 96, 000 dead trees. And instead of producing 100's of passionate new enlightened and skilled Jensonites spreading our City of Chicago's masterful & dedicated horticultural knowledge across the globe. Now today a plea spreads throughout every corner park in City, "We need as many Volunteers as our neighborhood can get, to help rescue thousands of our public parks new trees, whose not one breathing open air Root Flare, can be seen or yet found"! And after planted by countless winning bid contractors, who for some clueless reason, made strictly sure every trees living root flare would be well hidden under those soil Mounds or below level of surrounding ground. Euphorically every soil skewed young tree can be easily corrected with individual root flare excavations  So, see you out there all. Join the Midwestern Prairie School ecology movement, and prune some proud "Chicago style Apical dominant trees".
