The Utah Senator and one-time GOP presidential nominee today says he is no longer at home within a Republican Party dominated by Donald Trump. Mitt Romney talks with CBS News' Norah O'Donnell about why he feels a large portion of his party doesn't believe in the Constitution, and about his reaction to the violence of January 6. He also discusses the example set by his father, George Romney, a former governor of Michigan; and revelations from McKay Coppins' new biography, "Romney: A Reckoning."

Didn't vote for Mr. Romney for president, as my views were better represented by his opponent in that election. But I have great respect for his integrity and political courage.

I didn’t vote for Mitt in 2012 but I’ll take Him any day as President over most Republicans. He was a Great Senator and I would have supported Him as President had he defeated Obama in 2012.

I voted against Romney in 2012, and didn't agree with 80% of his politics. But, especially today, you can't help but to respect him. He, like all the other reasonable Republicans have either been forced out or are sick of the rot and decay of the party, and chose not to run again. This is a shame. He can still work with those he disagrees with and puts the country above his own self interests. Unlike 95% of today's GOP.

So much respect for Sen Romney. Like others, I didn't vote for him but I always respected him. I agreed with some of his ideals, and disagreed with others; his politics didn't resonate with me but that doesn't mean I didn't hear things I didn't like. I always felt he was dedicated to the United States in a holistic way. His voice has been an important one in American politics and values. He's a good man and he and his family are good people. I wish him well and will read his memoir. I hope his departure from politics does not mean his voice will also exit. I can tell him how I judge his legacy: a good man who contributed true commitment to the country, some great ideas and some not, but always a good man and good American. I wish I could say the same for as many other politicians.

I disagree with Romney on a lot, but he deserves respect for sticking up for his principles and having a backbone. Wish more Republicans would do the same...

As a lifelong liberal Dem, I disagree with many of Romney’s political positions yet I have so much admiration for his conviction and standing up for what’s right in his own Party. Miss honest Republicans like this. Romney, thank you for your years of service and enjoy your well-deserved retirement!

McCain, Bush, Romney… what in the world has happened to the party of Reagan and Lincoln? It’s not recognizable anymore. 🤦‍♂️

I am a lifetime Democrat, and I also have deep respect for him. Romney is a reminder of the civility and courage that is so sorely missing in politics today.

Mr Romney, you hit the nail right on the head! The Republican party is not what it used to be. Most of the congressmen are just straight off a Jerry Springer show

I never thought I’d ever say this but Mitt Romney has become the voice of reason in unreasonable times. How is it that the country has swerved so far off course that communist leaders and dictators are considered more trustworthy to the members of our government than their fellow American democrats? If he ran for president, I would vote for him. This is coming from a life long democrat.

I'm a democrat but this man has a heart and good character. God bless

We mocked him for his misunderstood 'women in binders' comment a decade ago as the worst thing in the Republican Party; now he's a to-be-missed light of sanity in its insane asylum.

You would have made an amazing president. Unfortunately, this country lost out. But your contributions to the country are many and significant. I thank you deeply for your service. And all true patriots do the same.

Mitt is a man of good character and has served the nation well. We could use many more like him in government, especially in DC. He was governor of Massachusetts, the bluest state in the nation, and was respected, even by Democrats, who helped elect him. That was two lifetimes ago in the Republican party.

As a somewhat left-of-center voter my entire life…I never would have never thought an interview of a sane and moral Republican would make me weep for all we’ve lost. We are enduring a morass of insanity and immoral behavior…we must remember that it still is only a minority, as they do shout louder and the media is caught up in the “ click circus”. Please remember the moral imperative that, when evil is afoot, good people must stay actively opposed to its attempts to dominate!

I've been a Democrat all my life and I would vote for Romney over Trump, without hesitation.
