my scuba buddy got a black urchin spine stuck in the side of his little finger. He removed it but it got infected. Antibiotics didn't work and the infection spread. They had to cut away lots of infected tissue. It didn't heal so they cut more away, It healed but he lost use of his little finger, eventually after a few years of trapping his numb useless finger they decided to amputate it.

You dip the affected area in vinegar for 60mins or more. It dissolves the spines that you can't remove. Those fckers are the reason I wear aqua shoes when diving.

On my home Town Canical/Madeira island we wait until the full moon or wen the sea is at his max level full tide and then we put the affect area in hot sea water with soap and vinegar until the skin is rugged like you have stayed too long in the water then we proceed to removing the spines!!😉🙂
