I used to do a LOT of soloing of areas over my lvl, so I just kind of got good at dive rolling out of the way of just about everything anyhow. I used to be able to take on whole gangs of enemies that could kill me in a few hits by myself in close quarters without dying. And I didn't even know about this trick.
