IÑUPIAQ: Submitted & Recorded by George Tinmiaq

This video is created for educational, language awareness, and language preservation purposes. It aims to provide valuable insights and knowledge to viewers, enhancing their understanding and appreciation of different languages and their unique characteristics. By raising awareness about linguistic diversity, the video seeks to foster a greater respect and recognition for various languages, particularly those that are endangered or underrepresented. Additionally, it contributes to the preservation of languages by documenting and sharing linguistic knowledge, thus ensuring that these languages and their cultural heritage are not lost to future generations.

Greenlandic is an Eskaleut language spoken by about 57,000 people, primarily Greenlandic Inuit in Greenland. Closely related to Canadian Inuit languages like Inuktitut, it is the most widely spoken language in its family.

Iñupiaq is an Inuit language spoken by the Iñupiat people in northern and northwestern Alaska and a small part of the Northwest Territories in Canada. It belongs to the Eskaleut language family. There are approximately 2,000 speakers, most of whom are over the age of 40, making it a threatened language. Iñupiaq is also an official language of the State of Alaska, alongside several other indigenous languages.

Imagine life before European arrival. The Inuit continuum was the world you knew. The folks in your Inuktitut village are rolling on the floor laughing around the fire because you're so good at imitating how Iñupiaq people speak and their dialect.
