People laugh at Tobey Maguire's cry in Spider-Man, but that's probably the most realistic cry in a movie lmao

That sigh when his wife dies sounds like he just got the wrong toppings on his sandwich, instead of, y’know, a horrifying tragedy!

This reminded me of a video by Pop Culture Detective called "Boys Don't Cry (Except When They Do)". It's a great exploration of masculine emotional vulnerability in media.

just a message to anyone who feels like they can’t express their emotions: it’s ok to cry and to be vulnerable, whether it’s alone or to a loved one. we go through what seems like hell sometimes and it’s a completely normal and human reaction to cry. don’t confuse your sadness for anger. yes anger is an emotion but most of the time, men will think they’re angry instead of sad bc they can’t be sad. yes you can. so take the time and process your emotions to keep yourself healthy so that you can be happy in the future. if you’re struggling, please reach out to someone and get the help you deserve.

I like it when men show their feelings

To those making fun of men for not crying when something really bad happens like losing a loved one, sometimes you're too overwhelmed to cry, you just feel empty and numb and can't process it. That happened to me when my mother died in December of last year. I just felt guilty and empty and couldn't accept that it was true, couldn't accept that I couldn't be there or say goodbye. We weren't very close and had been no contact until she got very unwell and was in hospice but I couldn't come to terms with the fact I didn't say what I wanted or needed to. It's normal to not cry at first if you lose someone you love, to not be able to process or accept it, to be convinced it's not true or not real. Sometimes it takes time to grieve

I hope we are able to let men show their emotions in a healthier way without them growing to think they shouldn't.

That sigh at the news of his wife literally fucking dying sounds more like he’s annoyed that McDonald’s didn’t get his order right. If I were given that kinda news, which I have been, I would’ve been fuckin’ bawling for hours, which I did do.

2 times when even uptight fellows deem that it's 'socially acceptable' for men to cry

-When they're loved one dies
-Sitting on the curb drunk off their ass while telling their mate how much they're in love with a girl
