Why I Switched from FULL FRAME to Sony FX30

Sony a7s III vs Sony FX30 for video shooting. I've switched from Full Frame Sony a7s III to an APS-C camera Sony FX30 and crop-sensor lenses and shot a couple of commercial projects with it and now I'm ready to tell you the difference between Sony a7s III and Sony FX30 in the real world.

buy the Viltrox 23mm f1.4 as its a 35mm equivalent for the fx30. its sharp also.

Thanks for the post. Sorry to hear about your Italy nightmare. Man, that is just the worst. As the Lord says in scripture... If everything is taken from a good person, he just gets up and builds it all up again, yet the judgement is reserved for the wicked. I'm on the verge of purchasing a fx30. The majority of my work is interiors, real estate, accommodation travel, etc. Main focus of my photography is interiors. I want to get into video, short clips done super slick. Been catching up on which camera gear to support. Shooting canon right now but going to move over to Sony. I just hate the rotating wheel on the Canon. I use to shoot nikon for over 15 years before shooting with canon. Got a 5div. No great shakes.

I have a question regarding video for interior. Will the fx30 be okay. I know 2.8 will be a bit dark especially on overcast days and darker rooms. Should I use continuous lighting and a defuser to lighten it up instead of holding thumbs. I really want the small aps-c sized camera and lenses for a lightweight gimbal setup. I've looked at alot of cinema short clips shot with the fx30, just love the color, tone and contrast and how they used 60 fps slowed down to 30 or 24 fps. I don't mind keeping the canon and the pro lenses for stills and I am sure I can use them on the fx30 with an adapter, there is also the speed adapter to consider that increases the light coming in by about a stop! Called focal reducer, something like that, but I wonder how rectilinear the vertical walls are on the side of the frame. Tried to find something online about it to no avail. That is testing verticals with a focal reducer on sony aps-c mounts.

Getting back to the fx30 and interiors, just how much could I push up the iso, overexpose properly, slog3 and grade accordingly. Could I go up to 6400 or 8000? Lens wise I need to get super ultra wide Laowa 9mm 2.8 is to dark and the dual iso of 2500 I guess, Canon 11mm 1.8 is to wide already. Viltrox 13mm brilliant lens but not the essential purchase for now. Where is a 9mm 1.8, or even 1.4 for aps-c. And if not then full frame lens mounted on the fx30 using metabone speed booster and testing the detail and verticals would be a super cool video to make next. Well that is my hopes that you would consider such an excercise.

invest in camera bags that don’t look like expensive camera bags

i use the rockway sling to carry my fx30, extra battery, tamron 11-20, kit 16-50, and an external monitor with internal battery. Compact and never leaves my body so it’s hard to steal
