Unbelievable flying skills - NATO E-3 AWACS fighter-style run and break and landing

One from the archives from RIAT 2012 that I recently re-found. This NATO E-3 pilot flying LX-N90453 demonstrated some truly amazing flying skills. A fighter style initial and break to land followed by an early base leg turn and a dramatic landing. The jet must be at 60˚ of bank on the initial turn and pulling so hard that vapour was forming on the top of the wings.

Definitely a landing to remember!

Very impressive! The maneuver is known as the Afgan approach and landing style invented by Soviet pilots. It was used to minimize presents at weapon engagement zone by FIM-92 Stinger while landing at Kabul airport during the Afghanistan conflict (1979-1989).

I live near the home base of these planes and they do this all the time. It's badass

Love it! Shame it wasn't able to do anything like this when I went up on the 19th July, hoping to visit the whole weekend next year!

This plane still brings back nostalgia, as well as a deep dark hatred LOL. It nearly killed me twice...

What is this? What is his/her TAC name?

Fake. Video broke at 1:10. Rotodome was turning prior and not turning after. Not saying it wasn’t the same aircraft or flight, saying it wasn’t the same approach.

Judging by the exhaust...that’s a coal powered aircraft.

Good flying indeed but now imagine having this thing fly over every day and sometimes multiple times and sometimes on full power(some days it isn't flying over bit it sometimes flies over so much those days can be calculated away)
PLS GET NEW ENGINES (or just a new plane in general)
You even see the black smoke

That move was exceptionally stupid and dangerous. My only hope is that there was no crew onboard. The AWACS 707 was never designed to make that kind of turn. He's lucky the wings didn't come off. If I were the Wing Commander that pilot would be a Walmart greeter the next day. I flew AWACS for 17 years and 6k hours. I served at Tinker, Kadena, GK, and at Boeing Seattle so I know. I also lived through Ukla and the crash in Greece when I was at NATO.

A similar move was tried on a B52 at Fairchild AFB and we all know how that turned out. Not even the most talented pilot can out fly physics.

ITS A PITY THAT IT HAS A BAD RADAR. I THINK THE USA HAS ABOUT 35 OR LESS IN SERVICE.
