He's right, of course. Having been raised in a deeply Calvinist and fundamentalist tradition, I wrestled with and then lost my faith for many years. It was only after a period of conscious effort that I was able to recover it, but the fearful and malignant faith I lost was no loss at all. It was a liberation.
