Triticale is pronounced "Trit-uh·KAY·lee." It is a hybrid of wheat (Triticum) and rye (Secale). They tried to grow it in eastern Washington in the 1970s, but it never caught on with farmers.

They are kind of rare but I've seen a few here in NW Illinois. I recently found a a S550 with a Hillco conversion, first for me. I am seeing less of the replacement S650. Thanks for posting.

We grew some triticale in the late 70s in southwest Missouri. We only grew it for one season. It's much more prevalent in Poland, Germany and France. Incidentally, you pronounce the 'e' in the name. tri-tih-KAY-lee.
