For high-speed performance, efficiency is key. The Mode, our new high-speed performance wing, incorporates N-Weave woven fibre technology, 3x stiffer and 40% lighter than traditional leading-edge materials, for the most efficient power delivery on the market.

We designed the Mode primarily for speed, but the stiffer airframe also translates into unprecedented loft for higher jumps and forward momentum on landings.

North Brand Director and Wing Designer Dano See discuss the features and benefits of the Mode High-Speed Performance Wing.

I tried the 4.2m Mode this past weekend in 25g40mph winds (I'm 65kg) and it was awesome. The upwind performance really is amazing--easily sailing at 1:00/11:00 on the wind. Definitely very direct, but controllable in the high end. Not a lot of pumping power in the low end for me (I was on an Armstrong MA1000 foil), but overall really good. For comparison, I like the F-One Strike except for the soft handles. The Mode is much stiffer with better upwind performance than the Strike (V2; haven't tried the V3 yet). I suspect most riders >65kg will want the 5.5m and should be able to ride out higher gusts.

The MODE looks great and I am seeing more and more of them on the water. Seems strange however that the question of why there are no smaller sizes is just totally ignored. In San Francisco Bay I'm used to using a 3.5 quite often and even a 2.8 in high wind -- and it blows way harder in the Gorge and on Maui than it does here. Even if the Mode 4.2 is reasonably manageable overpowered, why would you want to use more sail than necessary? You can't just say that the "4.2 and 5.5 are designed for high wind" without further explana -- it's not convincing and creates confusion by way of avoiding a very obvious question.

Cheers on the great wing design, and I hope you can shed some light on this -- and perhaps update your marketing materials to address this simple question that any experienced rider is sure to be asking.
