This is a visual guide to playing a D Mixolydian scale over what is basically a I-IV-V progression with a slight variation. I-IV-V is pretty commonly recognizable as a blues progression although it shows up in pop and rock genres very frequently even as parts of a song if not the entire song.

In the audio, the I is represented by D dom 7, D dom 9, D dom 11, and D dom 13 chords, then changes to the IV which is G Maj and G dom in this example. D mixolydian could be seen as a G Major when playing over these G chords. A variant occurs in the case the E dom7 and F dom7 makes an appearance and during these parts D Mixolydian can still be used but it contains a major 3rd which is F# that can conflict with the F dom7 so be careful using it during this part. Then on the final pass the E Maj goes to A Maj which is the V. Then the whole pattern repeats.
