Albeniz 'Asturias' Viewer's Q&A PIANO LESSON - P. Barton

*Please note: The cautionary practice method suggested in this video is for those with acoustic pianos that have, for example, an aging mechanism. If your instrument is new (as is the FEURICH piano in this video) this practice method may not be necessary for you. This is a cautionary suggestion only, which I hope I made clear in this video.

That said, some might find this cautionary practice method still useful (even if their piano is new) as it helps simplify the work at the learning stage.

Nice lesson. One additional difference in editions is the dynamics of the last two bars. One reading is “ppp”, and the other is “ff, ” which is the opposite effect, of course!

Amazing performance and explanations. It's a really beautiful piece and a very hard one! The only comment to add, as a historical note, is that the German editor didn't know much about Spain, as flamenco is particularly unknown in the North, being an Andalusian type of music that spread upwards up to Madrid... So the title "Asturias" is quite inexact (Asturian music, like Galician, is usually performed with bagpipes, drums and tambourines, with rather deep Celtic roots) although "Leyenda" could be a good title for the Prologue, indeed... Thanks a bunch!!!

He is driven by a deep sense of rhythm giving him the ability for a soul shaking rubato. You can’t teach that!!!

Asturias is also a Principality! This piece has nothing in common with the music of Asturias. The title Legend is much better!
