Watching these videos makes me feel better about spending nearly $1000 these last few months, basically changing 95% of my wardrobe. I've replaced my Aeropostale and American Eagle wardrobe with dress shirts, polos, cardigans, from higher end stores.

Excellent analysis. There's another excuse I hear a lot, and that's "my baggy jeans and baggy t shirt are clean... this IS what I consider well-dressed, and there's no reason for me to dress any better". Of course, you and I both know this isn't right, but how can another person be convinced?

Excellent story, I like the fact that you admit to not knowing yourself completely, despite being a true mentor with a philosophical background.
The idea with the 'uniform' is exactly the reason I wear ties and dress shoes, even if it is not a standard around me.
A very common excuse I hear quite often: 'Nice clothes are too expensive'
You might want to comment on that, because it is, in my opinion, the first excuse.

I come from an upbringing that categorized style and fashion as superficial and not manly. But now I'm starting to understand the philosophy of caring how you present yourself.

It doesn't even matter what you do. You could work at McDonalds, but you should still keep your uniform clean and pressed everyday.

Thanks for these videos. I'm currently sharpening my wardrobe. It's funny, looking back, I've spent more time maintaining my cars and house than myself. That's got to change.

ok, i agree to some extent, but there are people who really care about how they dress, but calling that "dressing sharp" would be silly. there are people, who consciously wear clothes that are not fashionable, wrong size, destroyed or even they put them on the wrong body part (adapting an oversized t-shirt as pants for example). they do it to communicate something, to tell their ideas to the world using symbols and controversy. i think that's where style stops being a mere "first impression" tool and becomes an art.

I have similar issues as I'm 22 and dress the same way. I think we're doing ok (but I might be biased haha). There's a way to dress this way and not "look like an old man." If it's all well fitted, we're just ahead of the curve I say.

The only time I hear something negative is from friends or guys. I always ask if they can really question my dress when they have a tapout shirt and basketball shorts on.

Probably the most important of your videos. I still don't dress very good but I enjoy the information in these videos. Now what's my excuse? Well I was never comfortable in shirts at all, I like t shirts. Also, 99% of clothes I try just always feel bad and uncomfortable then I find something that's okay so I buy it repeatedly. It's sad but it's like a cycle. Also i never considered the idea of dressing to be showing myself. Great video this one.

Heres my question. I stay clean shaven, have a young looking hairstyle, but dress sharp as well. I only wear button up shirts, cardigans, etc. My shoes consist of wingtip oxfords, classic converse's, and boat shoes. I wear a belt all the type and look clean and put together. I'm also 20 and in college. A lot of the time I feel like it draws attention to itself in the wrong way. Am I overdressing for school? I've been confused for a professor more than once.

By the way, after I subscribed to your channel, my style has changed radically. I went from T-shirts, jeans and Converse shoes to Polos and plaid shirts, khaki pants, Sperry's and dress shoes. Also, I now started rocking the Cardigans in the winter and I am about to get my first pair of brown dress shoes for this spring! I am nineteen and a college-bound student :D
