My first car was a used E39 530D - absolute joy to drive!
You see less and less of them every day though (probably due to all those dumb, new EU regulations + the car getting up there in age)...

Very slow acceleration for 3.0 and 6 cylinder engine. Probably automatic gearbox is rubbish.
