There is a wildlife reservation in Mexico named after them, Floor has a beetle (Tmesisternus floorjansenae) named after her, Tuomas has a fungus gnat (Sciophila Holopaineni) named after him.

How amazing is this song!!!! I just love Floor´s voice and the incredible lyrics and composition. Tuomas is quite simply the most brilliant composer of our times. Loving your reactions :)

this is the epilogue to the Greatest Show on Earth. and it's a sci fi novel put into a poem.
the depth of those lyrics! "the living lie - dead afraid" - could mean so many things.
my way of reading it: the "singers of the gone" face extinction themselves. they are at the end of pi, which has an endless amount of numbers. it's the end of the universe, and they are the last species that goes to harvest/death. the last part of the procession of life. so sad, yet beautiful.
one more thing: "words and melodies with a touch of coloring." the lyric video is black-and-white. the pictures of the threatened species are the only thing that is in color. tuomas wrote this in a tongue we should understand.

Tuomas studied biology in school, and Floor wanted to be a biologist as a child. They have an interest in such things, and taking inspiration from people like Richard Dawkins, they are a very science-y band and, subsequently, have a strong following in the scientific community. Both Floor and Tuomas have organisms named after them, and there are two other organisms named after the band as a whole.

As i commented this song some time ago:
I love this song (and album). This song is sang by something else than a human. This is from the future, it tells a story where there first are no humans, then they arrive and evolve, they dont understand the world and start to destroy it, finally humans are gone too. The narrator is something that was there the whole time and still is long time after humans -and they remember.. Song is meant to wake people up, this is not only path to take, we can change things -and should. (There is a interview in Metal hammer magazine where band talks about this album)

Tuomas Holopainen said that Nightwish is bigger than people who plays in it. Players and singers come and goes, Nightwish is there, Nightwish will chance but be there always. Like it is after Marko Hietala.

This album title is quite brilliant. Keep listening - EVERY song fits into this title and how we interact as humans with each other, with the planet and with space - in nature.

And you seem to forget between Imaginarium and Human:Nature there was another album Endless Forms Most Beautiful... For me the next album will be the end of a trilogy.

Tarja was the original. Anette was the singer for both the intermediate albums. Dark Passion Play as a catharsis and Imaginarium as introduction for the next singer. However writing for Endless Forms Most Beautiful was started before the quality of voice was completely known. To me, though Floor was the singer when EFMB was released Tuomas didn't know what she could do.

This is an album with much more focus on the lyrics :-) Everything tuomas writes has a deeper meaning, but often the focus is more on the musical expression and the emotions that can be evoked through the music than on being able to follow the story and hear what is being sung.

Wait till you hit Endlessness as it refers to one of the main pivotal characteristics of human condition ( nature if you will). The fact humans are the only life form on earth conscious about their innevitable death, mortality, average life span and the pressure this knowledge puts on your living and being also driving force for a lot of humanity's best achievements. Plus musicaly delving a bit to Sabbath style doom metal...awesome. Masterpiece album on both discs

This is a thematic highpoint on the album.

A thought: Unless you plan on reacting to 'Endless Forms Most Beautiful' in it's entirety, at some point you should set aside an hour or two on your own to listen to it from start to finish. Some of the themes on Human:Nature are introduced there. This band is unmatched.
