In spain it should say "carro de combate". My father (who was in the military) told me in the spanish army is absolutely forbidden to call it "tanque", which is considered the colloquial term for it

The reason it sounds the same in most language is because the term tank was originally derived from the cover story for the first one, they pretended it was a mobile water tank, languages that say something else are translating the concept of a tank, like panzerkampfwagen which means armored combat vehicle

Fun fact:
Czołg in Polish as stated it translates to tank
However it may come from word "Czołgać (się)" which translates to "crawl (added there "self" cause grammar)
So in Polish its more fitting than (fuel) tank cause some may say that tanks crawl insted of tank

Also also tracks (not only tank tracks) are called "Gąsiennice" which translates to "Caterpillars" which is kinda silly
