I cross my chains so if the trailer ever falls off the hitch the chains will catch the trailer

Personally I twist and only cross once but apparently you are supposed to shorten them as twisting reduces load rating according to the internet anyways

Thank you Darrell. I see alot of people making mistakes on the interstate, it's good that we have an informative channel like this to teach people

Another tip is to have the hooks facing up bc it's harder for them to come out of the holes

This needs to be viral. All those fires started in Arizona years ago was due to chains sparking.

Genuine good content don’t see that much anymore

Chains are crossed to make a cradle for the trailer to drop into if it comes off the ball hitch. Twisting your chains individually can help shorten them up if you need to.

I’m a little slow but noticed the Cummins dealer sticker on the tailgate, didn’t realize you were an Okie! Keep up the great videos y’all!💙

Wrapping the chains around eachother is a bad idea, its better to just use the right length of chain. If they do hang too low, use a bungie cord to keep them from dragging. Wrapping the chain puts stress on the links in a direction that can cause the chain to break if the trailer comes loose.

Crossing the chains provides lateral stability if the trailer gets loose, if the tongue goes left, the right chain gets tight and pulls to the left, and vice versa, it is like using cross bracing to keep a gate from sagging. It also can catch the trailer undet the right circumstances. When you wrap the chain around, you eliminate the benefits of crossing the 2 chains, essentially turning 2 chains into 1 weaker chain.

Now this is the type of content people need to see. I can probably count on one hand, the amount of people I know that know to do that.

Pro tip: use plastic ratchet straps in between links to reduce dragging. Cinch up three links, if incidents occur, plastic strap will break, safety chain will engage. 👍🇺🇲
