This series explores Gadamer's seminal work on the foundations of hermeneutic philosophy and its profound implications for the uncovering of truth, and how such a disclosure, or uncovering, reveals the meaning of fundamental existence in our own encounter with the fundamental essence of existence: being.

This video is the first section of Gadamer's seminal work Truth and Method. He begins his project of hermeneutics by challenging the scientific notion of objective method and how it relates to the understanding by comparing with the human sciences and points to a notion of truth that emerges in art.

This first section lays the groundwork for Bildung (cultivation) in the next episode where he examines how truth relates to ethical character.
