Hollands Machinist Vise Restoration!

I won the bid at an auction for this Hollands vise! Paid $90 for it which a steal in my opinion. I believe these vises are very undervalued and a real bargain. I am pretty sure Hollands vises are the same as a Reed vise but cannot prove it. I clean and relube this vise and put it back into service again. I don't paint it but do coat it with Boiled Linseed Oil.

I can't begin to tell you how many times I have thought "Why not try a high pressure spray to blast away lots of the loose and surface muck?" To me, as an inherently lazy by nature person, I thought it might cut down on some of the scrubbing effort. This is the first I have actually seen it done. WOOHOO!!! 👍👍👍

Just came in from the garage where my Hollands 14 was cleaned-up and ready for use...I picked it up at Chelsea Antiques, in Chelsea Michigan yesterday.
Thank you for the pointer for the removal of the pin on the bottom to really get the debris cleaned out...

I’m not sure which to applaud the most, the restoration or your bravery going into a workshop in a good white shirt! When you were demonstrating how smoothly it ran I thought "I hope he doesn’t paint it as it looks good as it is." Though I have to say painting the letters was a great finishing touch.

Very good video. I just obtained two Holland 15 Vise both in good shape one a bit rusty but hey that's what Evapo Rust is for.

Thanks for this video. I have three out of four parts for this exact vise and now I have an idea as to what I 'm looking for in the garage...the retaining collar. Also wondering if there is a place online that I might be able to find a replacement part as in my previous cleaning up and lack of knowledge, I may have tossed it. Thanks in advance for any ideas or help on this. I'd love to get this vise up and running.
