12-18-2021 Mayfield, KY - Recovery Efforts Continues During Showers

Recovery efforts continues a week later in the town of Mayfield. Passing showers throughout the day didn't stop the linemen from running new lines to try and restore power. Piles of debris can be seen throughout the downtown region. Residents that were hit in the tornado are still gathering tarps and water. Debris is slowly being picked up as well. The Mayfield Fire Dept raised the American Flag to salute a deputy that lost his life in the tornado. Residents also gathered in the rain to pay respects to the fallen.

It will be weeks before they got all the electricity turned back on to the areas that weren’t decimated by the storm. The areas that are completely gone won’t have electricity for a year if not longer. Having gone through hurricanes here in Florida I can tell you that the aftermath is far worse than the storm itself. The really scary thing is it’s going to start getting cold soon.

Mayfield's main issue is the destruction of that candle factory, as it was by far the town's biggest employer. The private sector cannot help, only the government can do it.
