In this episode of Repair and Replace, Vance explains how electric fuses work in appliances. Fuses are single use overload protection devices. Standard fuses will fail when the current exceeds the rated amount. Thermal switches respond to heat and will protect against overheating. In this episode you'll also learn how to test the fuse for continuity with a multimeter.

Thanks for the great explanation, I'm getting into electronics and needed to know about fuses to for example prevent LEDs from exploding

A fuse is a deliberate weak link in a circuit, which is designed to fail, should excessive current flow in the circuit due to a fault condition ⚡💥🔥 hence protecting the circuit.

Glad I could help clear that up! 👍🤣

In my electric stove the damaged thermal fuse was 15A. Had to replace it with 10A since no 15A available. Stove is working now. But is it ok 15A to 10A?

I am changing out my exterior lighting. I replaced one at a time. Testing the first one it blew my garage fuse. I thought maybe because the other one was still an old halogen light that was blown out it could be an issue. I found the second light wired with 2 ground, neutrals and black wires. I tried using one of each without testing for hot wire. Nothing blew, nor got power. I’ve now tested all the wires and got continuity on the second lights with one of the 2 black and white wires. I’m now checking the wall switch to see if it is functioning. Any other suggestions would help.

A very small bought a servo stabilizer of 5kva for my home as mainline stabilizer. It has a 20a glass fuse in the rear. suddenly the fuse blew. When replaced it was overheating and blowing. So the Servo maker said instead of a glass fuse he replaced it with a 25a MCB (circuit breaker) and said it will do the same job as the fuse...if not more efficiently, is this true or he doesnt know squat ? I think hes wrong....bec MCB switches dont sense for heat right ? They only trip when theres a short (ie. when phase and neutral touch each other somewhere ?). Kindly give me your idea. Thanks.
