Brother ScanNCut - Resticking your Mat - Sticky Mat Adhesive, Two-Way Glue & Pollyanna’s Cutting Mat

In this Brother ScanNCut Tutorial, you will learn how to restick your mat and observe as I experiment with another type of mat which is compatible with the Brother Scan and Cut - a non-adhesive one. Resticking or retacking your mat will save you money over time as you will not need to replace your mats as often. I demonstrated ways of retacking your SDX125 mats. Below is a related tutorial on how to re-stick or re-tack your Scan and Cut 2 or CM350 mats.

My shop showed me a technique using Totally Awesome from the Dollar Tree. You spray it on and using your scraper tool you smooth it lightly around, don’t scrap it! As you move it toward the edge of the mat you will see all the crud coming off. It’s kind of like frosting a cake. Then just wipe the stuff off with a paper towel. The mat renews it stickiness as it dries. Use it straight from the bottle. Don’t dilute it. And if you don’t like it you have a bottle of cleaner useable for other jobs. But it worked great for me. Thanx for all your tutorials.

I have used on my cricut mats for years a carburetor cleaner (from automotive dept )& scraper (outside) to clean all of the old sticky off, wash in mild soapy warm water & let dry before using zig glue. Works perfectly with harming the mat. Would also be nice if Brother made the DX mats to load from either direction like the older mats. This would utilize being able to use the 6x12 function on both top & bottom of the mat.
Love your tips &tricks, have learned so much from you on getting the most from my machine. Thank you, God Bless.

I am in the UK and I have used Pinflair Stencil Glue, Zig 2 way, Sticky Mat Adhesive, and Mat Tack. Of these, I prefer the Pinflair Stencil Glue. You only need a pea sized amount to cover the 12x12 mat.

i wish Brother would come out with a bulk purchase for their mats at a REASONABLE price! I do not see why theirs cost so much more than Cricut's mats!! Thanks for your tips!!

Yikes!!! 22 mats!!!
Just got my Scanncut 2 a few weeks ago. The thought of having to buy that many mats over a few years time is crazy expensive (does Brother make these of low quality or something...for their job/sales security?)
Thank you so very much for all of your tutorials-tips-tricks-and your lovely personality. You are the reason I bought my Scanncut because I loved watching you cut stamped images. Since stamping is my fave hobby and not all stamp sets have matching dies - Scanncut is the perfect tool for my needs.

However, it seems watching this video, the money I will save not buying dies I will actually spend on mats, glue and painters tape, right? That means I will essentially save storage space but not really any money...may in fact spend more money because I have had dies for years and none have ever worn out. I did buy new cutting plates 1 time for my Big Shot.

Quick question....I was using some black paper on Scanncut 2 for layering behind some Halloween stamps. Unfortunately I didn’t have StampinUp black cardstock for this. The only edges that actually cut were fuzzy, most didn’t cut through enough to use, and my mat is now covered in black fuzzy lines in exact shapes I had cut. I tried to use the spatula to get this off and I even tried my Cricut spatula. Neither of these got the fuzzy stuff off so now my mat is a mess. How can I get this fuzzy mess of the mat? Whatever you suggest if you could provide links or actual names of products I need to purchase would be greatly appreciated.
Or would it be better to just buy a new mat and use this one for cutting black in the future?

What baby wipes do you use? All I can find are ones with aloe. Is there an alternative? Can you use the Zig 2 way glue on the SNC mats? Thank you.

Soooo many great mat tips. Thanks so much! How do you store your mats? You still use the plastic covers they come with?

i use the zig I like it works great don't know why Brother can not come up with a sheet or something to restick our mats without buying a brand new mat for over 20.00 dollars their mat for the dx was really bad did not last long at all I did about 6 card stock and the sticky went away

Do you buy your new mats on Amazon? I bought one there, 12x24, but had to return it as my SNC DX125 didn't recognize it. Also, why do you think Brother made such a fabulous product in the SNC and then just sort of stopped their engineering & innovation when it came to the mats? Do you think they will improve their mats in the future? This imbalance just doesn't make sense to me but boy do I love my SNCs!
