Bukh DV24 Manual Start HowTo

Показать описание
Clip shows how to manually start a Bukh DV24 marine diesel engine using the starting handle.

This particular engine is installed on a Westerley Griffon sailboat.

Manual starting is useful to know if you are off a leeshore in a gale and the batteries have gone flat or the starter motor has packed up.

It takes three attempts to start, but it does finally start.

The reason the decompressor lever is heavy to push down, is because the bolts on the valve cover are too tight !!! Do not use the tool to create more momentum !!!

You can easily break stuff. Suggestion: remove the valve cover, and renew the gasket/seal. Gently tighten, just enough so no oil is leaking.

Whilst tightening the 2 bolts on top, keep moving the lever up and down. You will feel it going more difficult once the bolts tighten.

Starting the engine manually should be very easy....🙂

We have a Bukh DV20 and have never been able to get it to manually start. Aside from having the batteries on and the engine in neutral, do you think there anything else we need to do to get this going?

Ps: We have the compression leaver set to open so maybe we are just timing it wrong ?

I would advise starting your engine like this unless you want to break your thumb.

You have to put full intention in handstarting.
