Trama:
Austin, Texas, 1971.Con la consegna dei diplomi, Kenneth e Gardner ricevono la lettera di arruolamento per il Vietnam, tanto che il primo annuncia la rottura del fidanzamento con Debbie, ex ragazza del suo compagno. Gardner, scapestrato ma intraprendente, lo invita con Dorman, Phil e Lester a partire con una Cadillac alla volta del confine col Messico, dove erano stati qualche anno prima, per disseppellire un certo Dom. Alla fine però Kenneth, dietro consiglio di Gardner, ci ripensa e decide di sposarsi con Debbie.

Curiosità:
-Suzy Amis e Sam Robards hanno seguito i destini dei loro personaggi sposandosi anche nella vita reale; il matrimonio è durato dal 1986 al 1994 e hanno avuto un figlio di nome Jasper.
Suzy Amis si è poi risposata successivamente con il regista James Cameron, dal quale ha avuto tre figli, Claire (2001), Quinn (2003) ed Elizabeth Rose (2006).
-Questo film ha lanciato l’attore Kevin Costner (in seguito ha collaborato col regista Reynolds in altri due film, Robin Hood [Principe dei ladri] del 1991 e Waterworld del 1995. Reynolds è stato anche il regista non accreditato della seconda unità e consigliere per l'epico western ed esordio alla regia di Costner, Balla coi Lupi del 1990.
-Il film ha come produttori esecutivi Frank Marshall e Kathleen Kennedy della Amblin, è quindi finanziato da Spielberg (la “squadra” di “Ritorno al Futuro”, diretto da Robert Zemeckis).
-Nel fotogramma di apertura si esplicita il significato del titolo, una danza ispanica dai movimenti nervosi e imprevedibili, che figuratamente indica un gesto folle, bizzarro.
