DCS AJS-37 Viggen - Easy target QFE

For the deployment of a lot of the weapons of the Viggen it is necessary (or at least beneficial) to input the target altitude into your systems. Normally you would do this by checking your kneeboard for the target waypoint QFE and dial that in on your altimeter.

However if you do not have a preset waypoint on the target it is not so easy. Now you could remember the relation between millibar and altitude and calculate the correct QFE like some sort of mathemagician, but there is a simpler way.

Easy target "QFE" method (no pressure values required):

Pre-flight:
1. Set your backup altimeter to read 0m at your airfield. (I recommend setting your main altimeter to the same value for now.)

Whenever:
2. Check your F10 map and note the altitude(in the upper left corner) of both your airfield and the target location.
3. Calculate the difference altitude between airfield and the target. (D = Aa - Ta)
4. Input this difference into your main altimeter in comparison to your backup altimeter.

Now you should have set the correct QFE for your target.
Remember that while in Altitude Hold Mode your altitude is determined by your main altimeter and changing its value will make the autopilot change your flight altitude as well.

In the video the airfield altitude is 477m and the target altitude is 783m with a difference of about 300m (-306 = 477 - 873). I lower the main altimeter by 300m and since I actually set up a waypoint in the editor I can check my solution using the kneeboard. The altimeter reads a QFE of 902 and the kneeboard gives the target QFE as 900.

speaking or even subtitles or hand signals for that matter would've helped a lot because I have no idea what you just did besides wave the mouse cursor around.
