Our tool tray is covered with indoor outdoor carpet and applied with spray adhesive, we used KREG JIG tools to fasten it to the bench top. We build a lot of giant scale rc planes and this makes us more efficient than ever before

Keeping the main work surface tidy and organized is definitely a plus. My bench is built primarily for woodworking; a common move among woodworkers is a "tool well" on the opposite side of the bench from where you spend most of your time. Woodworking benches are narrow enough that that works fine - it's easy to reach over there. Obviously the size of the planes you guys build precludes that - I think what you've built here is sort of the "obvious modification" for a wide bench. At any rate, the basic idea is solid gold. Keep that tabletop open. It's never fun having your workspace crowded and messy.
