Fun Facts, about the F-117 Nighthawk: 1. The cost for each one was $42.6 million. 2. Only 59 where produced, and 45 are still in active duty. 3. They were only made from 1981 to 1990.

Considering the time of its existence, it should not be an overstatement to say that the people in charge of its design are singularities.

Saw the news clip in Spring of 89 that officially declassified the Nighthawk. I was a senior in high school and in September of that year I joined the Navy and became an Avionics Technician.

Absolute marvel of engineering. The radar signature of an F-117 is equivalent to a flying insect.

These ducts would cause asymmetrical thrust which the flight computers had trouble controlling, during normal flight conditions. This caught a lot of pilots out, because you’re basically flying sideways

I would imagine there is some amount of penalty in reduced engine thrust that is created by using the "wide distribution"exhaust duct, but a reduced engine exhaust IR signature was the main goal.

those engineers thought of everything🤔

Well you got the details down extremely well. Now when can we expect your video on a DIY Homebrew version? 😁

Saw(the running lights)and vapor trail of one fly 1000' over my house at like 3am. Silent.

I’ll be honest, i never even questioned where the engines and exhaust were on the f117 until i saw this, my brain just assumed it was a spaceship i guess😂

If you use bypass air in the front it's for anti-ice but this thing uses it in the exhaust for cooling.

This confuses me. I thought jet propulsion meant you can't have a choked exhaust. Or is it just not choked so much that there isn't too little thrust? Is the exhaust still what propels it or is the vacuum in front of the engine pulling it forward or is it both?

It's still crazy to me that this thing was designed in the 70s.

when stealth is optional: A10
when stealth is not optional: F117

Already in the 90s it was getting shot down with dumb munitions 😢

Although not supersonic-able, its top speed was actually not bad at all for that exhaust and overall aerodynamics, if there’s any😂

I owned one of those once, but the stealth is so good, I forgot where I parked it and now I cant find it.
