OK so yea, I'm biased, but in this vlog I'm going to explain why I chose PMR as my specialty over fields like orthopedic surgery, neurology, and family medicine, and why I really do think it's one of the best specialties out there!

Ok, so yea, I'm biased, but physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) is really an awesome field that is very poorly understood. In this video I'll explain why I LOVE what I do and some things to think about when it comes to considering it as a specialty!

I suffered through a work injury that has left me with severe nerve damage. I went to my primary doctors countless times but was turned away and given "extra stretches" I can do. The only person that understood what I was going through and helped me truly recover was my PM&R doctor. It's inspired me to go back to school to become one

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the fact that you aren’t afraid to post your grades & stats! It’s just so refreshing while everyone else try’s to be so privy & secretive! Thank you for being an awesome human! ❤️❤️

Wow. Seriously, this video is like those $100 I found on the street. I’ve been looking into this career for a while now and you talking about it is just perfect and exactly what I needed.

“It’s ok to have a life outside of medicine..” and still be a great person & doctor. That was my favorite part! 😌👏🏽👍🏽

Just wanted to say congrats! You've done and are doing so well for yourself! This video is almost 6 years old, meaming youve completed residency and a potential fellowship and are currently practicing! You did what younger you wanted and now you're even giving commentary and explanations on reasons for certain medical conditions!! Congrays again! You did that!

This is so good to hear. Currently studying for mcat but I’m always thinking about the burnout/stress that will soon come and it’s discouraging at times. We should be able to want a good life outside which is what I want. The happier you are, the best care to patients. Thank you for this

Love this video, Brian. I just graduated from PM&R residency last June (currently finishing SCI fellowship) and can definitely attest that what you've said is very true. Great work-life balance, and it's awesome to be able to make a tangible difference in our patients' lives. Keep it up! FIMS of 6-7 all the way!

Yep, I agree, I was the Medical Assistant for a PM&R (Physiatrist) MD for 7 yrs. We saw from sports injuries to spine injuries, CTS, Neck, Back, Nerve, etc. Epidurals, He helped a lot of folks, (including my son's when they were teenagers). Great specialty!!!

I'm not a med student, but I only know about PM&R because I'm a patient of a PM&R physician. My own personal experience has made me interested in wanting to go to school, and hopefully in the future med school. My main interest is obviously PM&R, but any specialty that will help me treat patients that have spinal issues like me will work too.

You are a man after my own heart! I'm a pre-med and your story is literally the dilemma I'm going through. You hit the nail on the head 9:43. It is such a relief to see that there's a msk driven speciality that would meet my med career goals. Thank you from Florida!

Thank you so much for putting this video out, Dr. Brian! I had always doubted about my path with the medical career, until I found this. It was very helpful!

You’re one of the most down to earth doctors I’ve seen I wish I could say that more often! I really enjoyed this video

Very honest and helpful video. As a PM&R applicant, this was helpful. Work life balance is really important and PM&R overall seems to appreciate that. Thanks for the video. Many people don’t even know the field exists. My school doesn’t have a dept. Med students need to know. Keep up the great work.

I wanted to just thank you and let you know that I opted PM &R after seeing your series of videos about it, and I now actually can feel everything you are saying and I am so happy with the speciality. I'm in my first year of residency. Love from India!

Thank you for sharing!!!! I’ve been gung ho for Neurology forever, but am also uncomfortable with the “what’s next” component. I’ve only vaguely heard of PM&R, and you have definitely educated me enough to pique my interest! I’m also interested in sports med/neuromuscular aspects. Going into 2nd year, I’ve realized just how important it is I keep my options open, and you definitely helped me create another reasonable option!

You have no idea how similar our career paths look... lol. I’m a mechanical engineer applying this coming cycle. I am still slightly interested in ortho but leaning towards a specialty like PMR for the work life balance.

Thanks so much for this video. I'm an M2 very interested in MSK care. Been exploring orthopedic surgery a lot but really want to learn more about PM&R and this was great to hear!

This was so great! I had no idea I may be a PM&R at heart. I have been working for 7 years with TBIs in Neurology as a PA but I am looking for a change. Absolutely I get it now :) thanks!
