MechWarrior 3 is a vehicle simulation game, part of the MechWarrior series. It featured a new 3D accelerated graphics engine at the time of its release. The game contains over 20 missions, with access to 18 different mechs. A novelization called Trial Under Fire was written by Loren L. Coleman.

I spent HOURS on this game, messing with loadouts, trying relentlessly to get through the campaign at like 11 or 12yo. SO much fun. Definitely the PC game I played the most.

Man I miss this game. Wish MW5 was more like it. I loved MW2, too, but this was the peak of the MW series for me.

So much loadout adaptability in this game. I remember speccing a 100 ton Annihilator to run fast enough that it could have fallen over its own feet ;)

My first real computer game, I got it at a garage sale along with X-wing Alliance and Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed....in 2001 when i was 10, i remember those games as Hi definition, immersive experiences that hold such great memories of taking turns with my baby brother when either of us died or finished a mission. Love it.

The graphics and immersion improvement from MW2 to this iteration of MechWarrior was a large leap. (I felt it went backwards with MW4.) I played this game to death, and I used to be very good at it because of the controller I chose: a flight stick with steering set to twist, the torso set to the stick itself, and the pilot looking around as the hat on top of the stick. I felt this gave me excellent control of maneuvers in the game.

I played and liked MW2. But it wasn't until MW3 that I fell in love with the series. This game blew me away as a child. The music and sounds are super nostalgic.

Not to mention MW3 was the overall better game...

I remember Playing Mechwarrior 2 when I was 6. No Idea what I was doing, but destroying other robots became a lot of fun. 3, I missed out on to save my family money, but from 4 onward, I was hooked. I hope one day the entire series gets released for modern pc's with HOTAS Compatibility.
