September Arctic Sea Ice Extent 1979 to 2022

There is stories of ships being able to pass through the arctic in winter in the 1880's, weather is unpredictable and changes constantly, Greenland was settled by Vikings for hundreds of years around 1000 ad and then was abandoned when the climate changed and got too unhinabitable

I was in Barrow in 2013. The ice was all the way to the Alaskan coast.

It would be cool to have this with sea ice thickness gradients too (using color gradients) because that's even more troubling. Hoping we figure it out before it's truly too late. Scientists rushing to save coral in an impossible situation. The catastrophic loss of emperor penguin babies this year. We need to start paying attention.
