LAFD Battles Double House Fire: Station 66 (Harvard Pk.)

Los Angeles Fire Department Battalion 13 companies were dispatched to a reported structure fire in 66’s first-in at the intersection of 54th St. x Normandie Ave. (later corrected to 1400 blk. of W. 54th St.) just before 01:00hrs.

Units assigned: A-Unit 21, A-Unit 22, Command 22, Battalion 11 (canceled), Battalion 13, Task Force 33, Task Force 66, Light Force 21 (canceled), Engine 46, Engine 57, Rescue 46, Rescue 66, Rescue 866, & EMS 11.

LF66 was first on scene and reported a single story single family dwelling with heavy fire on the A-side and an exposure on the B-side. E46 was primary fire attack with backup from E57, LF66 went to the roof for vertical ventilation. Once fire spread into the attic space of the bravo exposure, E66 was assigned fire attack on that residence with backup and salvage from E33, and LF33 went to the roof. BC13 was 54th Street IC.

The roof of the initial fire building collapsed with personnel on it, fortunately, no injuries sustained.

Knockdown was called in 26 minutes with 43 personnel, RA46 assessed one resident for unspecified injuries. LAFD ACTS were dispatched for an investigation.

Beautiful shots of the night fire, but unfortunately the work of the firefighters was bad, the second house could have been immediately defended without damage if they had been more seriously engaged! It's a good thing that none of the firefighters were injured or killed!
