NASA SDO - Venus and Coronal Loops

Показать описание
As we are almost halfway through the Venus Transit, here is a look at Venus through the NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory AIA instrument. This is in 171 angstrom wavelength.

This channel is especially good at showing coronal loops - the arcs extending off of the Sun where plasma moves along magnetic field lines. The brightest spots seen here are locations where the magnetic field near the surface is exceptionally strong.

Wow - I can detect the faint haze of Venus' atmosphere encircling the planet in the first part. I'm so thankful to live in a time when images like this are available to us. Thank you, NASA. Writing my Congressmen (again) to remind them to keep funding the incredibleand important work you're doing.

It was amazing seeing it live yesterday! This is an awesome video and it was realeased (almost) in real time with as the transit went.

Referring to the Sun's Corona..or surface. The loops are the explosions of gasses that reach out into space..

not sure why everyone thinks this is some amazing stuff

Stunning!

This was an impossible view in 2004. I wonder what future people in 2115 will see the next transit.

To future Earthlings (or our alien masters): Do me a solid... if you see this message AND you have a time machine, could you please beam me images of what you see in your time.
Thanks a million!

Why is it I can see the line of the sun through venus as venus travels in front of it?

Can anyone explains what's a Coronal, and why everyone here is finding it awesome?

haha, I was watching for slight signs of gravitational lensing and thought maybe i saw it a few times, but it could have been the atmosphere distorting the background

I just saw flying lights go fast as fuck in the sky...
3 of em following each other
They would go kinda slow then go fast like nothing...

Well, that's awesome, our advancement in space-observation
But you're right and i think the same, its just another planet like billions of others orbiting a sun :P

As you become more scientifically literate, you will see a lot more than a black and yellow circle.

the gravitational field of venus bent the light of the sun! EINSTEIN WAS RIGHT
