I think a good general rule for these atmospheric slow games is not to show the monster unless it will lead the player to some narrative realization (like, "dear god, the monster was really all of the devs stitched together!) Or will literally make me shit and doodoo my pants.

I think if I were to make the ending jumpscare, what I would do is slowly have a pair of arms wrap around the player. Have them start out low-down and hard to see, but they slowly become more obvious and more pairs of arms wrap around the protagonist. Once the player notices them and looks down at them from a few seconds, cue jumpscare.

I’m just gonna address the fact that Gomo being made of malleable Tar either means she can change her colors, wears a rubber skin suit, or paints her face and limbs.

All of which are mildly viscerally disturbing thoughts. I’m pro skin suit camp.

If you are looking for more 2nd person/diagetic horror, I recommend "Stories Untold, " at least the first chapter. You play a person playing an old text-based adventure game, and while the events of the chapter are connected to the rest of the game, it also makes for a neat and well-made standalone horror experience.

this game actually looks pretty neat. the ending ghost actually looks really cool but it's not scary at all. maybe if it was more sudden and quick, like a second of the ghost lunging at you with some more build-up, idk

Porkchop's horror adventure is one of my favorite fnaf fan games and it uses this type of setting where you play as a character playing a retro game. Popgoes arcade also takes advantage of this type of thing and I really love how both of these fangames do it.

Ooh man, this is definitely something I can vibe with. Something I used to do all the time back in the summer was to just play atari games on a crt late at night, the "boom" effect that light the dark room in various colors, it's my preferred way to play those games, and this is like that but with a spooky ghost!
