A good review. Thank You, I look forward to obtain one Framework Laptop and use my favorite Linux Mint on that. I hope that works well.

Have used Arch since around 2007 on all of my laptops save my MacBooks. Currently have a 16" MacBook and just bought a Framework laptop to replace my T420s. Arch still uses the Pacman pkg-mgr which, in my opinion, is incredibly powerful and resourceful as I’ve experienced with apt in the past, so no of this FlatPak here in my foreseeable future. My FW is but days old (12th gen i5 - batch 2) and I am going to try OpenBSD as it’s always my usual dual setup’s 2nd OS. Excited for this weekend!

I just stumbled upon you video of unboxing the laptop and was wondering if you already made a follow up, so very lucky timing for me, haha! Looking forward to finding out your impressions!

I used to love Ubuntu but because of all issues I moved to Fedora. Never had an issue with the fingerprint on Fedora, works every time. I use Lenovo x1 gen. 3, not sure how this will be with your Firmwork laptop. You can try Fedora, there is a way to still have an Ubuntu environment if you use toolbox, a cool container management tool

Really enjoyed all your videos on the Framework. As a relatively recent convert to Ubuntu I would echo all your points. I often hit issues like the scrolling, which fall into the "why the hell is this like this?" category. For the battery stuff, if you haven't done it already its worth installing TLP, which really helped me with power management.

I know reloading your OS is a pain...but I'm having a great experience with Fedora on my Framework Laptop.

Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V work in almost all apps I use on my KDE laptop, except that Konsole requires Ctrl-Shift-C and Ctrl-Shift-V. Not that difficult, plus most things are configurable. I have never had problems with scrolling in KDE.

Great video, I’ve been considering purchasing a Framework laptop and converting to Ubuntu Linux from Windows for the first time, and while I’m not a developer you still gave me lots of things to think about.

We should pay for the software we like, especially if we value it’s open source freedom respecting license, even more so if it’s used professionally!
If we don’t, other businesses will take over!! We’re seeing it already happening!
Open Source software development should be financed by its users and coordinated by a legal entity legally bound to adhere to agreed principles and goals…

Have you tried to using OBS Studio for recording? Have you tried using Firefox(which comes preinstalled) instead of Chrome. There are more Linux Users that use Firefox than Chrome. What i want to say is that they care more about the funcionallity of Firefox on Linux. Both have the same Webside Compatiblity. My Favorite Os is Fedora.

Hi, great review, I also saw your unboxing of the framework laptop. Maybe, do you have any issue using the wifi on Ubuntu? I saw a review when they had a lot of issues with this distro

Probably that's not just bad ubuntu's suspend, that's mostly Intel fault. I mean they have introduces new suspend starting from 11th cpu series and it's the only option. More or less situation the same in Windows too (correct me if I am wrong).

I had the same issues with the trackpad. A viable solution was installing a program called imwheel, but that would make the scrolling either too fast or too slow.

I was so frustrating that I ended up creating a gnome extension to manage that. Lot of time wasted

I suspected that linux would omit some of the comforts I was used to like smooth scrolling and easy setup. Still sad that this is still an issue

Any updates? Really thinking that my next laptop is going to be from framework.

Battery life can be fixed by enabling hibernate mode. It doesn't seem that complex to enable.
Hardware wise either buy a new microphone or install pipewire. Pulseaudio seems to be the culprit.

Be sure to install Steam in the near future.

Regarding Firefox being installed as a snap in Ubuntu, I would recommend going for Linux Mint instead. Much better experience for me, better DE, and Firefox is installed through Aptitude (and comes with the distro as the default browser). With that said, when I receive my Framework, I'll try it with Fedora as well.

Hi and thanks for your videos. Very helpful so far. I was wondering about the noise of this laptop. Is it mostly quiet or rather annoying? Thanks
