To enter upon the marriage union is one of the most deeply important events of life. It cannot be too prayerfully treated. Our happiness, our usefulness, our living for God or for ourselves afterward are often most intimately connected with our choice of a spouse. Therefore, in the most prayerful manner, this choice should be made. Neither beauty nor age, nor money, nor mental powers, should be that which prompts the decision; but first, much waiting upon God for guidance should be used; second, a hearty purpose to be willing to be guided by Him should be aimed after; third, true godliness without a shadow of doubt, should be the first and absolutely needful qualification, to a Christian, with regard to a companion for life.

I know from not following this... Everyone thinking about getting married in the future can save a lot of pain and heartache by following this advice. Better to remain single then to marry someone not 100% committed to following Christ at all cost. Always best to work on your relationship with God first and let him bring you the person he wants you to be with...

ANSWERED PRAYER!  George Muller gives great advice on FAITH.  He's the man with the great faith in prayer to God to provide the orphanage children with their breakfast without any food in the pantry. He prayed w the children.  A baker knocked on the door and told Muller God had laid it on his heart to rise at 2am to make bread for Muller's orphans.  Then a milk truck broke down in front of the orphanage and the milkman donated his milk for the children waiting at the breakfast table.  Wowza! 

Pray ahead of time for the loving spouse the Lord will give you at just the right time.  He is able!

I know - I found out the hard way marrying a carnal minded Christian who I naturally assumed would grow more spiritual over time.

She didn't.

No amount of Bible reading and praying together nor wise and godly Christian counseling served to change her for the better.

She went from bad to worse to worser, as if she had never been born again, as if she despised a godly lifestyle.

That was the most harrowing 3 and 1/2 years of my life, a living nightmare - and I am still being impacted by that experience many years later due to the children we had together.

Please, please, please PRAY for the Father to connect you with a truly godly person for marriage, not just a church-goer - and He will.

And make sure that spouse you choose has never been bound to anyone else and that you yourself have not. For by joining such together would be entering and practicing adultery. It is safe to say you get one chance to make a wise choice on this one. Never entertain the idea of divorce and remarriage adultery using false exemption clause loopholes which don’t exist.
