When I Heard This In Godzilla: Minus One…

On top of being a fantastic movie with a fantastic score, as I’ve previously talked about, Godzilla: Minus One used a few particular music cues from certain classic Godzilla films. Among them was a return of the classic theme from Mothra vs Godzilla!

As some of you who have been watching my stuff for a while may know, Mothra vs Godzilla was my first ever Godzilla movie. I have that film to thank for making me a fan. So when I first heard the music from that movie make a return in Minus One, I nearly leapt out of my seat in excitement.

Anyway, I’ve reminisced enough. Just a short little meme to give you a break from all the music so far this year. Wishing you all well, and Merry Christmas!

Fun bit of trivia for you all, the motif you can hear at 0:11 has only been used in four Godzilla movies to date.

- Mothra vs Godzilla (1964)
- Godzilla vs Biollante (1989), which used some of the the 1986 Akira Ifukube Ostinato concert recordings of the Mothra vs Godzilla and Invasion of Astro Monster soundtracks.
- Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla (1993), the only time Akira Ifukube himself used the motif in a movie after Mothra vs Godzilla.
- Godzilla: Minus One

I always have to laugh at the folks who say this shouldn't have played during the scene.

I've always found the track to be harrowing, even a bit emotional. I think it was the perfect combo of scene appropriate & nostalgic callback.
