I think this one has been your best live to date - and probably the most expensive product you have reviewed at £29 + P&P. When I first saw it I knew it was gonna be expensive so I had to go to have a look at it on Hotel Chocolat 's website. What they sell is incredible, for all the types of luxury and colourful bars and selectors, so its well worth a look, had me drooling over some of them, lol, but you do pay for the luxury as you would expect. Your egg weighed 490g for £29, so thats about £6 per 100g, and if you consider Aldi milk chocolate is £0.79 for 200g, meaning about 39p per 100g, you can see just how much more you are paying for the privelege of a Hotel Chocolat product.
I think your scores may well have been more critical because you were thinking how much you had paid for the chocolate, and maybe had it have cost a tenner you may have given it 5/5. I tend to find the more expensive something is, the more you scrutinise it and see if it really does justify such a high price in comparison to say, maybe Cadbury dairy milk at £2 for a 200g bar, or basically a sixth of the price. Could you really say that it was 6 times nicer than Cadbury dairy milk?
As you said at the end, I think this is not really a product you would normally buy for yourself, as you know you could get nicer chocolate for much cheaper in simple 200g or 100g bar form, but rather you might buy it for your wife or partner, or someone else special to you as a gift, and then the monetary value is more justified in the presentation box and fancy wrapping etc.
According to the website, the average Kcal value is 574, so not that bad considering Lindor is about 630, due to it being very creamy and high in fat, but I can understand you saying the shell tasted like Lindor. The rocky road side looked rather Lion Bar like, and I would have liked that myself, yum!
As for the smaller chocs I think my faves would be the Caramel Cheesecake and the Fudge Sundae, they looked really good!
Thanks for another great show which I watched late on Saturday evening, as I always seem to miss the lives as they are a bit early in the day for me. All the best!
