“What our country has gone through with painful events in the past period has led to great pains and losses in lives and properties, affecting all categories of the Syrian people.”

Leading Alawite clerics in Syria have released a statement calling for a comprehensive amnesty that includes all members of Syrian society without exception, following the fall of the Assad government on Sunday.

An estimated two to three million Alawites live in Syria and Alawites held key roles in Syria’s military and government under the Assad family’s rule.
The clerics also demanded the return of all displaced persons to their homes in Syria.

I think a general amnesty is good but not for those who committed heinous acts like murder or rape. A state cannot exist without justice.

53 years of torture, thousands of innocents murdered, millions displaced, no apologies but want to be spared so they can disturb the peace with the help of hasbullah and Iran. Well done but Syrian are not stupid

Ironic. Asking for amnesty when they sanctioned brutality to so many others without mercy.

The lesson is clear: unless the new Syrian government—and any government, for that matter—establishes justice, they will face the same fate as the Assad regime. Whether this humiliation comes from internal uprisings, foreign intervention, or external forces, the outcome is inevitable for those who oppress and wrong the weak.

The key to avoiding the fate of tyrants is the establishment of justice for all people. Justice earns respect, even from adversaries. If Israel recognized Assad’s brutal repression of Syria’s Sunni Muslim population, it raises the question: why should they not treat the Palestinians and Lebanese with the same disdain? In contrast, the early Muslim migrants to Abyssinia sought refuge with a just ruler, as Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, a king who would never wrong them, unlike the oppressive rulers of Mecca who persecuted the weak.

Thus, history teaches us: nations are elevated by just rulers, and they fall into disgrace under tyrants. Only justice leads to respect, prosperity, and honor for any nation.

They can be forgiven, that doesn't mean they won't be punished.
