To tremble from cold in the icy snow,
In the harsh breath of a horrid wind;
To run, stamping one's feet every moment,
Our teeth chattering in the extreme cold

Before the fire to pass peaceful,
Contented days while the rain outside pours down.

We tread the icy path slowly and cautiously,
for fear of tripping and falling.
Then turn abruptly, slip, crash on the ground and,
rising, hasten on across the ice lest it cracks up.
We feel the chill north winds course through the home
despite the locked and bolted doors...
this is winter, which nonetheless
brings its own delights.

out of all 4 seasons from Vivaldi, i like winter the most

if anyone was curious, the painting is called "primavera" by botticelli! this particular part shows zephyr kidnapping chloris (a forest nymph). he later transforms chloris into the goddess of spring, shown with flowers growing out of her mouth.. this song so beautifully represents the cold harsh wind that steals away life in the fall to turn it into something much more beautiful in the coming year. botticelli has also painted the "birth of venus", a more well known painting that shares a similar devotion to roman/greek mythology. since im a massive art nerd i think it would also interesting to think about the differences between da vinci and botticelli's art techniques, specifically that of lines and colour contrast. looking at venus from "birth of venus" and mona lisa, i can see striking similarities between their expressions. however, their faces invoke different reactions from me and i think it has smth to do w the realism of sfumato.

This piece truly brought a tear to my eye. It was one of my classical painting teachers favorite songs of all the composers, she always played classical music during her lessons…It’s been 22 years since I’ve listened to the entire song. Thank you for bringing this memory back.
