Kobe was the only other player that year that averaged over 28ppg. He average 30ppg in 2003.

If you could somehow take this McGrady specifically and put him in the modern era, teach him modern plays, analytics, and various other new implementations. I think he would put up:

32-34 ppg, 7 apg, and 7 rpg on 48/40/79 shooting splits

He was a total offensive package that season. He could score from anywhere, handle the ball and not turn it over, and was a very good playmaker. I think all of these things now would actually be benefited from modern bball. He wouldn’t be taking a ton of high-post, triple threat, stuck in the mud congested mid range shots. He would utilize off ball 3s, cuts, his advanced slashing, pull up 3s, and assisted 3s more often. Not to mention the benefit of having capable shooters around him. Mac had great vision and incredible accuracy. Dang… he would be a dream today

The guy woke up and was getting buckets before he got out of bed, injuries really did us dirty with this one.

@HoopVenue another great video! You can really differentiate yourself by highlighting players like T-Mac and others from the 2000s era that the new generation didn't see in their prime who get their info from memes and false narratives with no context lf the era rules, spacing, or teammates T-Mac played with. I was starting middle school during this time. The 2003 was one of the greatest seasons in NBA History. Kobe vs. T-Mac was a heated debate back then. T-Mac was one of my favorite players. Have a blessed day!

Keep in mind, ENTIRE TEAMS were averaging about 90 ish points back then in the early 2000s. TMac was averaging about a third of most teams points while being the only respectable offensive threat on his team. To say his 2003 season is one of the most underrated in NBA history wouldn’t be an understatement. We’ve just grown numb to players averaging high amounts of points because of todays NBA

This version of Tmac averages close to 40 today

There was Grant Hill but he was unable to play. Also Tim Duncan didn’t join because Doc didn’t let his family on the plane 😂

Mind you, this was all during the toughest defensive era in hoops where scoring was at an all time low.

He was not better than I think, cause I think that at his prime he is one of the best players of all time. One of the most naturally talented basketball players ever. When I say that I mean incredible poetic feel for the game, combined with supreme skill, excellent athleticism, IQ, and when he wanted to, he was also one of the best defenders too.

My all time favorite player he wad just so smooth and made everything look so easy, so easy the media bashed him saying he was lazy and didn't care

In today game he would be A MONSTER especially cause he does hit long range 3s consistently he would be adding more 3s to his bag in today ls game

Shawn kemp was on that team :D that was also the year they blew the 3-1 lead against top seed detroit right? In part due to rookie tayshaun prince locking up mcgrady in games 5-6-7.

Incredible either way but was this an example of TMac was just that good but was injured in his later seasons or was it a hot shooting season? Because that production and in particular his 3 point shooting he never came close to replicating again

Hate that he didn’t get to play with a healthy Grant Hill.

Tmac would be amazing in today's NBA. His playstyle was ahead of his time, players like Paul George have drawn inspiration from his game.
