Huawei Mate Xs | Hands-on Review | Galaxy Fold Killer?

The new Huawei Mate Xs is the Chinese giant's second foldable phone, and here's my full hands-on review. A few things have changed for the 2020 Huawei Mate Xs compared with the original X model, including 5G support and a power boost, while some of the specs remain the same. So can this 8-inch bendy beast stand tall versus the Samsung Galaxy Fold?

First up, yes, this tablet-slash-phone doesn't come packing Google Services. So you're stuck with the Huawei App Gallery and third party stores. If you can live with that, there's a lot to love here, from the high-performance Kirin 990 5G platform to the gorgeous OLED screen. In its unfolded glory, the Mate Xs sports a 8-inch display which is ideal for multi-tasking with apps. However, you'll want to fold it up to enjoy movies and slip the phone back in your pocket.

Android 10 is on board, offering the latest features like a proper dark mode. I also already like the triple-lens camera (plus ToF sensor), which can be used to capture sharp photos, 4K video and beautiful selfies. Not to mention the 3x optical zoom.

How do you download apps for games then

It's really quite easy to sideload the Play Store onto phones or tablets that may lack it. The Amazon Fire HD8 that I have for example needed nothing more than a few .apks to be installed.

I don't believe these folding phones are the future that they're trying to tell us they are. With that being said the design of this makes more sense just because it looks like a phone first. Still don't wanna have a plastic screen though.
