I learned how to post trot on the outside shoulder going forward by reading Saddle Club books as a pre teen! Lol. Those books were seriously educational!

It makes a lot of sense since the weight you are sitting down for should be on the "inner edge" of the horse, kind of like skating, on skates with edges - where you put pressure, you will turn in that direction, more weight is on the inner leg rather than outer leg.

Very well explained. Intrestingly all my coaches have always been telling to pay attention when to sit down. This method of concentrating when to stand up instead feels kinda more logical and the rising of your hand in walkin was an interesting way for the teacher to see that the rider actually understands when to rise. Kudos.

This is a super clear explanation! However, when I first practiced this I have to say it took me ages to look down and actually see the shoulders in action and then rise accordingly - it all happens a bit too fast! During my last lesson I kept getting it wrong, and my instructor made me "sit for two". Any tips on how to identify the correct diagonal without looking over, and like me, forgetting to steer the dang horse in the process?! 😂

I got this right on my very first lesson learning it but I’ve only ever had maybe 5 lessons or so and I haven’t had any in about a year so I forgot how to do this
