Some of y’all might know Die Antwoord and some of y’all won’t, but they blew up and went viral in the early 2010s as a result of some crazy music videos, heavily featuring surreal and disturbing images. There are also a number of disturbing rumors surrounding the two members of the group and the people around them. Danny Brown recently spoke about his own experience with one of the members of the group. We’ll also get into how Ninja has responded to the whole thing so far. 1) Kinda surprised you didn't mention the 3rd member of their group. When they first started blowing up they had a DJ who had a nervous breakdown or something and ran away for a couple weeks right before they went on tour.
2) They've been weird as fuck from the jump and never really made a whole lot of sense but I definitely remember the Zef Side video being what put them on everybody's radar

Isn't the 'black face God' dude on the Ugly Boy video just a real black guy who has Aphex Twin / Richard David James' face made on him? This and the permanent smile that it is portraying is what is common in Aphex Twin videos, and to my understanding because The Antwoord has stated that they are huge fans of Aphex Twin, this is like an homage in the video, and due to their fandom it is understandable that the Aphex Twin dude is labelled as "God" on the shirt. There is even the Aphex Twin logo on the shirt on one of the girls in the video, not to mention that the whole song is based on a song from Aphex Twin, so references to that direction are understandable. However, I just see a black guy with a mask, not a black faced white guy.

The person who made this video doesn't understand what irony is. Max Normal being clean cut was the point. He was supposed to look like an office drone. They're all characters. It's theater, like David Bowie making glam rock as his alter ego Ziggy Stardust, the rock star from space, or the thin white duke.

Rumour has it one time Oloff was sat next to Jar Jar Binks on a flight. Jar Jar kept kicking the chair in front of him and generally being obnoxious, nobody knew what to do. Eventually one of the flight attendants came over and asked Oloff if he would perform one of his songs to calm Jar Jar down, and when Oloff began rapping the first verse to Doing It Stealthy, Jar Jar immediately relaxed. To this day the two are still close friends.
