Steely Dan “Peg” guitar bitchiness 💅

Fagen & Becker were like teen girls…so MEAN!! 😳 Jay Graydon was the 6th (or perhaps the 8th) and final guitar player to try to nail the solo, and boy were Don & Walter unflinching in their disdain for the ones that didn’t make the cut! 🥰on the new One Song podcast, special guest h. jon benjamin (Bob’s Burgers, Archer) aka @jazzdaredevil joins us as we dig DEEP into the stems & stories behind Steely Dan’s subversive jazz funk/pop/rock hit “Peg”

Im still geeking over how much I love this solo... not realizing Archer is talking about it.

It’s such a busy song, the idc spaced out solo fits in just so perfectly. Anymore and it’d be indistinguishable in the mix.

The phrasing is impeccable. Truly an inspired solo.

Jay Graydon. Ten people tried to play the solo. Walter and Don didn’t like any of the weak noodling. Then Don said make it bluesy. Jay killed it

this has been one of my goals for like 25 years to learn this solo. I had a heavy steely dan phase and had all their albums and this was my favorite solo. guess i better get to it

When you're a great player it gives you a lot of freedom that's what that sounds like

The solo with the envelope filter is the funniest if you watch that clip. Also, is that H John Benjamin???

Shows the genius Don & Walter have/had when it comes to music. Elton has it, Quincey has it. Just unbelievable stuff that makes sound come alive.

Jay Graydon is responsible for that amazing solo. You could have mentioned that.

The “Great Albums” video on this album is great. I remember hearing that other attempt for the first time & was just thinking “that would have made the song so forgettable.”
