NHS Patient Passports

Wes Streeting is talking about "NHS Patient Passports" to give people control of their health records to allow their data to flow with them as they move from service to service within the health system.

This links to the National Data Library announcement within the October 24 budget. Can we use UK Government data to unlock more efficient services and attract funding from commercial partners?

I worked on the National Program for IT from 2003 to 2006. The money was available, the systems were basically developed. But the program was resisted by people who did not want to share data. 20 years wasted. Finally it looks like modernisation is on the agenda again.

When I was born in the 1950’s I was issued an NHS card which had my NHS id on it 🙂
