Today we open up the Cattleya orchid seed pod and take a look at the very tiny seeds.

But propagation is not impossible. After polination, a seed pod will slowly start to swell for a few months. Seeds are general like dust and in large numbers. Just sprinkling them on the medium will not result in anything most probably, but I just didn't want to throw them :P

The seed pod hadn't quite dried yet so the seeds weren't dry or dusty yet. If it was a few days older it probably would have been blowing everywhere. Awesome video!

I got a new paph orchid this year and was overjoyed to see the bloom! Today when I went by to water it, I noticed that the flower had gone soft and translucent. At first, I was worried that it might have been damaged by cold, since it is winter, but the area of the house it's in is fairly warm. When the flower fell off, I noticed a thickening... I'm wondering if it's a seed pod! If so, pretty exciting! I probably can't do much with it, but it's cool to see, just disappointing that I won't be able to enjoy the bloom for longer.

This is great! Thanks for the video! When I first got my orchids, a year later one of them grew this... I had NO idea what it was. I through it out! 😟. 4 years ago my 80year old uncle willed me his orchid collection. That’s how I got started. Only a couple dendrobiums died and one phal. Now I have those growing like weeds and this year I spent a lot of money on all different kinds of orchids, bcz Im pretty confident I’m not going to kill them. 🤞 Your videos (and wade’s and “my orchid adventure”) have really given me confidence...and I even keep all mine outside in the screened in patio open to the rain and everything! They love it. Thanks again! I’m still laughing/crying that I threw orchid seeds in the garbage!

Many of us have seen Orchid seeds. If you use fresh vanilla pod or eat certain brands of ice cream the tiny black specks that appear are seeds of the vanilla orchid. Its hard to imagine that something so close to invisible will grow into an orchid plant!

that's cool!! last year, I found a seed pod from a Lilly.. I know Lillies are grown from bulbs, but you have to get the bulb somehow, so I wanted to try to grow the seed.. into bulbs.. I planted them, but they did not grow 😳😳 but I kept one of the seeds in some growing soil & let it go. watering every day like my other plants, .... & it finally sprouted! I know it's takes at least a year to grow large enough to be considered a bulb, but I'm trying to do it! nice video! tfs us!

Fascinating video! Good to know about the eBay seeds, I have been looking at some for a while. Also: thank you so much for subscribing! I realize our systems are quite different, but I've used many of your methods as a jumping off point for my own experimentation. I value your perspective and insights a great deal!

Pollinated mine a few weeks ago. Should be an interesting hybrid pink and white 🤞possibly.

Thank you for making these videos. I am new to orchids and have been doing well with a few phalanopes and recently bought a oncidium to try. 😀 wish me luck👍

Good job, Danny... It was very interesting. I think I will try it one day. Feel better and stay cool... I see it's scorching out on the island. Thank goodness for the ocean.

I’m not sure what type of orchid this was but I found seeds in the flower bloom itself. Not pods as shown by so many. This orchid did not have those. The seed are small, black in color. I’m trying to see if I can germinate them. Any idea’s? I’d love to be contacted if possible but in meantime I’ll keep checking in with notifications on.
Thank you 🙏🏻
