Crickets Chirping Slowed Down 800% (creepy)

This was an experiment I did after hearing about the song "God's Cricket Chorus" that featured crickets slowed down to sound like a choir. I am not sure of exactly how much it was slowed down, or what other processes occurred when they did it, but this video is of crickets as well that I slowed down to 800% to see what it would create. I rather find it terrifying

A lot of this is the algorithm used to slow it down, which tries to keep the pitch of the sound the same. Naturally it's impossible to slow down audio and maintain the pitch without some trickery. The software has to duplicate tiny pieces of the sample to draw them out longer so that the same pitch is maintained. This works to stretch out audio a small amount, but sounds a bit odd. When you crank it up to a long stretch, though, it creates particularly weird, unnatural repeating sounds like the eerie hum at 800x.

One thing that would make this video better ( even though it's pretty creepy ) is if the picture was a cricket instead of a grasshopper

Dude, you first say it's 50% slower, then 5% slower... but 5% SLOWER means it's at around 95% of its regular speed. Thus, 5% slower is faster than 50% slower...

You meant to say 95% slower, or 5% of its original speed! And so on for each subsequent example.

bugs only appear to live a short time because to us they look so fast, but really it's just that they live on a whole different spectrum than us, or at least that's what I think, these noises are probably what they observe and interpret

I imagine someone playing a prank by sending the x800 slowed sound as a "signal", bouncing the "signal" off a satellite whilst cloaking the origin of where it came from and have the "signal" picked up by the SETI (The Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) program.
Then the unorthodox anti-authoritarian guy who smokes weed and takes psychedelics, yet remains highly respected amongst his peers because he's like a genius or some shit,   suggests "Hey, let's speed it up by 800 times"

I took the initial cricket audio and downloaded it into audacity. When slowed down to 1/800th the speed, the tone is simply a low hum in the 40-86 hz region.

To me this isn't creepy at all, I find it wonderful that species other than humans orchestrate together to sing
