nitrous is a dissociative not a depressant and also is actually highly flammable.
the term whippits was coined as nitrous is used in whipped cream containers to dispense whipped cream
It lasts usually around 90 seconds but can have an afterhigh for up to around 3 minutes. Nitrous wont cause liver or kidney damage typically (maybe if you black out on it but even then idk); the main problem is it's a neurotoxin as it lowers your body's capacity of holding vitamin b12, which helps your neurons run smoothly (or just run at all; thus the paralysis). Technically you can be completely safe with even a ton of nitrous if it's all in one session and you take b12 vitamins around 14 days later to get your levels back to normal but using it in succession is where the problems start as you'll never be able to recover your b12 capacity. Regardless don't use it; stick to weed or smth, but if you’re going to do it then keep sessions separated by at least 6 weeks and take b13 vitamins weekly; even after you decide youre done for good you should keep taking them for a couple months to make sure you’re ok.

Anesthesia assistant here. Its called Whippets cause they used to get high out of old whipped cream cans.
Most pressurised cans use laugh gas.
That being said i wanted to talk about the damage it does.
It leads to lack of oxygen in the brain. No oxygen means that the nerves dont get “food” so they die. It is important to know that permanent nerve damage from lack of oxygen (hypoxia) starts after a minute more or less. After 2 minutes neurones die and those cant be repaired. I was in culinary school. We got together a few students and they pulled out the whip its. One boy took a hit, passed out, smashed his head on a table.

I was the only person who attended to this kid. While the rest of them passed it around. The kid woke up after 30 seconds or so and went back for another hit. They passed the whip its to me, and i just yelled "are you fucking kidding me?" And walked out. They treated me like a square for the rest of the semester. But after that night I knew that the fact that these guys didnt think I was cool. Was proof that i was cooler than them.

The main reason for nerve damage is actually B12 deficiency after continuous use as n2o depletes those vitamins

1. "Your brain gets clogged and you get nerve damage because of it". That's wrong.

Nitrous oxide can cause nerve damage primarily by inactivating vitamin B12, which is essential for proper nervous system function. Vitamin B12 is necessary for maintaining myelin, a protective layer around nerve cells, as well as for the production of DNA and red blood cells. Prolonged or high-dose use of nitrous oxide can lead to a deficiency in vitamin B12, resulting in damage to the myelin, which can cause nerve damage with symptoms such as numbness, weakness, and difficulty walking.

2. "It's a depressant like alcohol". That's true to some extent. Nitrous Oxide is also a dissociative anesthetic much like ketamine.

3. "It causes liver damage". It does not cause liver damage. Just because it's a depressant like alcohol, doesn't mean it affects the liver the same way.

4. "It causes kidney damage". That is also not true.

5. "Nitrous oxide's duration is 5sec." This is false. It takes about 5 sec for it to hit but the effect lasts for a minute or 2. And yes, this causes people to keep inhaling in order to prolong the effect of it.

6. "It's extremely addictive". That's up for debate. It's not as addictive like opiates, benzodiazepines and alcohol where you become physically dependent on it but it does make you want more of it once you start inhaling it but once you stop using it, it's easy to just not take it. If people become addicted to it, it's more that person that has an addictive personality and is probably prone to get addicted to other stuff as well, like alcohol, gambling and such.

I think you kind of went a bit too over-dramatic on the use of nitrous oxide and the actual effects of it.

I remember seeing a show called Intervention that featured some lady that was addicted to huffing computer duster. It gave her irreversible brain damage. It makes me sad that our world is so dark that some people can’t even endure it without drugs.
